Engineering

ARES provides comprehensive engineering services to control technical risks to project success, typically resulting in increased operational effectiveness and significant cost savings.  ARES is adept at solving extremely complex technical challenges by offering solutions spanning systems engineering, architecture and design (including specialty equipment design), nuclear construction and start-up support, hazards and safety analysis, and risk engineering.  ARES’ employees have extensive expertise in the aerospace, chemical, civil, electrical, environmental, instrumentation and control, materials, mechanical, nuclear, seismic, and systems engineering disciplines, resulting in a unique breadth of capabilities to serve client needs.  Recognized for our capabilities on highly technical, high risk projects, we are also known for its proven history of on-time, on-budget performance.

Given our extensive track record in the highly technical nuclear industry, we have developed particularly strong expertise in seismic engineering and nuclear equipment qualification and testing, as described below:

  • Seismic Engineering. ARES has significant experience performing seismic analyses of nuclear structures, systems, and components.  Our expertise in this area spans soil structure interaction, structural degradation assessments, spent nuclear fuel pool degradation and leakage mitigation, and aircraft, bomb blast, high wind, and tsunami impact assessments.
  • Nuclear Equipment Qualification and Testing. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has well established standards for the qualification and testing of nuclear equipment.  ARES’ staff contains experts in this field and includes individuals who made significant contributions to the development of relevant IEEE standards (one of whom was the former committee chair).

ARES leverages the skills of our world-class employee base of scientists, engineers (48 of whom have Professional Engineering credentials, covering all engineering disciplines), and other professionals to quickly assemble an integrated project team that possesses broad, far-reaching engineering experience in addition to having distinguished risk management expertise.  Our ability to provide multidisciplinary design support, with accommodation and consideration of operational, technical, programmatic/acquisition, and maintenance factors, allows us to provide comprehensive engineering solutions to our clients’ largest challenges.

ARES is certified by 21 nuclear utilities to perform Nuclear Class Quality (Q) work, allowing us to develop complex nuclear designs, and our quality assurance system is compliant with NQA-1 and certified to ISO 9001:2008 and AS9100B.
